Here is a link to a Canada Revenue Agency page about the Cowichan Green Community Foundation. The Canada Revenue Agency does not show a similar Form T3010 Registered Charity listing for the Cowichan Green Community Society.
The Cowichan Green Community Society has applied for, and received, Grants from the City of Duncan. The most recent Grant we are aware of was a $10,000 grant awarded by a 4-3 vote of Duncan City Council at the 15 June 2020 Regular Council Meeting.
It should be noted that Judy Stafford, the Executive Director of the Cowichan Green Community Society, is a close personal friend of Duncan Mayor Michelle Staples and has been a close personal friend of Mayor Michelle Staples for several years.
It should also be noted that the President of the Cowichan Green Community Foundation is Chris Hall, who is also on the Board of Directors of Social Planning Cowichan, a non-profit society of which Duncan Mayor Michelle Staples is Executive Director.
Chris Hall’s position on the Social Planning Cowichan Board of Directors effectively makes him one of Michelle Staples employers in Mayor Michelle Staples’ position as Executive Director of Social Planning Cowichan. Executive Directors on non-profit societies typically retain their positions at the pleasure of the Society’s Board of Directors.
